Strategic Committee

The Strategic Committee is the governing body of the PUMA Cooperation.

It is composed of:

  • a representative of the Bank of Italy, who also acts as President of the Committee;
  • a representative for each banking or financial reporting agent taking part in the PUMA project;
  • a representative for each banking and financial trade association taking part in the PUMA project;
  • the coordinator of the PUMA Functional Groups.

The Strategic Committee normally meets twice a year (in June and December). The meetings are organized by the technical secretariat on behalf of the President of the Strategic Committee.
Other representatives of the Bank of Italy –from regulatory and/or statistical directorates - and of trade associations who are not members of the Strategic Committee may join its meetings as observers. Representatives of companies that manufacture software based on PUMA documentation may also be invited by the Committee to attend the meetings as observers. Furthermore, a member of the technical secretariat prepares the minutes and takes care of the administrative requirements.

The Strategic Committee is responsible for the following tasks:

  • defining the perimeters and/or the regulatory areas that will be addressed by the PUMA documentation;
  • deciding on PUMA deliverables, activities and organizational issues in order of priority;
  • preparing a long-term plan of projects;
  • identifying resources to be assigned to individual projects;
  • regularly monitoring the progress of planned projects;
  • reassigning priorities, together with the Functional Groups, based on new regulatory developments;
  • supervising the activity of the PUMA Functional Groups;
  • defining the general communication guidelines (for example, regarding the management of information to be published on the PUMA website);
  • approving requests to join the initiative;
  • deciding to exclude one or more members if there are serious grounds for doing so;
  • monitoring the activities of similar initiatives within the European statistical and supervisory authorities and identifying ways to coordinate, interact, and connect with them at various levels.
